Friday night fights

Friday nights were entertaining nights at the local arena.  With seating capacity of 1000, there was usually anywhere from 300-600 people in attendance. Just like any arena they had food, drinks and staff running the event. Tickets were cheap, just 10 bucks and matches would start at 5pm and go till midnight. They could sell tickets for that little as the wrestlers were not at a level where they got paid for their appearance. There was the odd time some big names would compete against the local’s and they would get paid as it would sell out the place. But most of the wrestlers were just women, who competed in leagues locally, or some just did it to stay in shape and others competed before they had a family and wanted to get back into it.  The facility provided refs for the matches, an announcer giving the play by play, 2 ring attended to help if a wrestler needed it after the match, a nurse, as well as a photographer to take pics of the winner. Basically everything a wrestling event needed.  The company that owned the arena got the talent for free, and the talent got experience being in front of a crowd and could start to make a name for themself. It was win win. It was named Friday night fights, for obvious reasons, and this was the first year it has been on. The set up was simple. Matches were generally 15 min, with 5 min between them to announce the competitors.  If you wanted to compete, you just filled out the time slots with who you’re against. There was also an option to just compete against a mystery competitor. Anyone who wanted in on the action but didn’t have an opponent lined up, or care who the fought can just sign up and after 9pm all the fights were random. You would know by 7pm who you’re against as that was the cut off time to sign up. Every Friday they would have open fight nights for women wrestlers. Many girls would have matches against others in their local gym, but if you wanted to experience an audience and settle a difference with a crowd this was the way to do.
