Tape: TK015 Artistic Differences Length: 40 minutes Style: Topless Catfighting Reviewed By: Bomur Catfights are the primary product of TanyaKicks; they are real to the point where you could almost believe them to be miraculous recording of a real-life event. More to the point, there are no hapless bystanders to blunder in and break the fight up, as happens all to often in the real fights that I've seen. For example, the premise of the tape (a disagreement between two painters about the artistic merits of each others work) is clearly contrived, but the fight that follows is clearly not. There are some things it's not possible to fake. I was recently made aware of one factor that can bring interest to a video, which is some disparity in the sizes of the opponents - that is, one is big and the other small. That's certainly the case here, where one is young, heavyset and tall, where the other is older, leaner and shorter. Logic dictates that height and weight should win the day, but logic often fails to take into account factors such as determination or pure malice. While the statistics predict that Steele Rose should be at a disadvantage, she runs the show from start to finish. For fans of 'smaller girl beats bigger girl', this is an important point. I was also impressed by the chatter - or more importantly, the restrained use of it. In some fights, insults fly so thick and fast that the actual action is reduced to the rôle of window dressing. For me, the action should be the jewel in the crown, so to speak, and so it is here, with the occasional comment given extra punch by its rarity. Both girls are to be commended on this. It was excellently done, script or no. So we come to the action. Steele Rose knows how to hurt her opponent, without question. As the fight progresses, so the level of brutality increases. In the early states, both girls seem content to restrict themselves to hairpulls, breast mauls and slapping, but Steele tires of this, and starts to include armlocks and chokes, for which young Haley has no answer. All she can do is struggle, grit her teeth and try to bear the pain. Indeed, Steele has no qualms about brutality, and she lays into her opponent with a will. Haley manages to hurt her opponent too, mostly through hairpulls and occasionally by using her full weight on her smaller opponent. However, it becomes clear that she doesn't have whatever it takes to deliver real punishment to her opponent, but she is to be commended for lasting as long as she does. For all that her final surrender may seems sudden, it has to be seen in context of the 40 minutes that preceded it. If - as Tanya's website states - Haley has quit catfighting, I must say that it is a great disappointment, for she is young as shows promise. Having said that, it is Steele Rose that shines through. Older and more determined, clearly able to take punishment and deliver back twice as much, one can only wonder what she will be capable of when she gains more experience on the mat. If she starts reading martial arts books on chokes and armlocks, then Heaven help her future opponents. The filming is expertly done. The camera is held steady, and follows the action when and where necessary, but is otherwise held still. Again, considering that the action is unscripted, one can only applaud the person responsible. The lighting is also adequate for the job. Due to availability of paint to both fighters, it was necessary to cover the floor with some waterproof material that created constant noise as the girls rolled around on it, but it did not obscure the more important sounds of the fight. In conclusion, I would say that this tape is an excellent introduction to catfighting; if fact, I begin to wonder if I will ever see a better one.
